At Voorlinden, you can jump around in a room full of balloons (Martin Creed, Work No. 1562), walk along the bottom of a swimming pool (Leandro Erlich, Swimming Pool), come face to face with giants (Ron Mueck, Boy, 1999), and even take pieces of artworks home with you…
Jean-Loup got the impression that absolutely anything was allowed, and was getting a little overexcited by the end of our visit.
When he started running around Richard Serra’s enormous sculpture before disappearing inside it, I went after him to catch up and remind him of a few basic rules.
And then I lost sight of him. In fact, I got completely lost in there myself.

Here, you can marvel at things without necessarily understanding everything, ask yourself big questions about what makes something a work of art, or simply have fun.
The teenager actually did a bit of all three: between some very serious (and surprisingly insightful) reflections on the artworks (Louise Bourgeois’ spider also reminded him of his own mother 😉), he even got the chance to brush up on his classics.
PS: No running or touching the artworks. Unless the sign says: Aanraken toegestaan.
